New bike path opened between Niederhollabrunn and Haselbach!
Niederhollabrunn, Österreich - On March 24, 2025, a new section of the walking and cycle path connection between Niederhollabrunn and Haselbach was officially handed over. This initiative was accompanied by Hubert Keyl, Mayor Jürgen Duffek and Di Christof Dauda from the Lower Austria Straßendienst. The new path establishes an important connection between the two cadastral communities and shows the commitment of the Niederhollabrunn market town, which provided space for construction and covered the costs of the basic redemption.
The route begins on the municipal road "In the Sulz" in Niederhollabrunn and ends at Felbergasse in Haselbach. With a length of around 1.7 kilometers and a asphalt animal width of three meters, the path offers both banquets of up to 0.5 meters. The Porr was commissioned to carry out the construction work. In total, the total cost of the project amounts to around 415,000 euros, of which 70% of the state of Lower Austria, including funding from Klimaaktiv.mobil, are borne. The market town of Niederhollabrunn controls the remaining 30%.
functionality and use of the bicycle road
The newly established connection is declared as a bicycle road, which means that the passage for agricultural vehicles is permitted. In addition, a top speed of 30 km/h applies on this road. There is a particular value that cyclists are not endangered or hindered.
Mayor Jürgen Duffek emphasized the positive response of the local population on the project. Contact persons for further information are Gerhard Fichtinger from the Lower Austria Straßendienst, available on Tel. 0676/812-60141 or by email to gerhard.fichtinger@noel.gv.at.
context of cycling in Lower Austria
Investments in cycling infrastructure are a hotly discussed topic in Lower Austria. A current study shows that 850 kilometers are missing in a structurally separate bike path to close the existing gaps on the net. This requires a total of 1.7 billion euros, which corresponds to 1,000 euros per person over a period of ten years. The investment requirement for cycling throughout Austria is even up to 7 billion euros, with Lower Austria currently owning 800 kilometers of cycling infrastructure, supplemented by 250 kilometers in thirties zones and 120 kilometers in traffic -calmed areas.
In view of these challenges, the state of Lower Austria promotes municipalities with grants from 60 to 80% for cycling infrastructure. The long -term plans include the expansion of a cycle fast path connection from Vienna to Wiener Neustadt and other corridors to improve the bicycle traffic infrastructure as a whole.Recently over 20 million euros were announced for the expansion of the cycling infrastructure in Lower Austria, with around 35 million euros in investment in the years 2021 and 2022. These developments are crucial in order to achieve the goal of a complete and secure network of cycle paths, which makes mobility much easier in the region. The new bike path between Niederhollabrunn and Haselbach is a small but important step in this direction.
