New bike path connects Niederhollabrunn and Haselbach - done!

On March 24, 2025, a new walking and cycle path section between the catastral communities Niederhollabrunn and Haselbach was inaugurated in a solemn handover. Member of the State Parliament Hubert Keyl, Mayor Jürgen Duffek and Di Christof Dauda from the Lower Austrian Street service were present to officially complete the project. This approximately 1.7 kilometers long begins on the municipal road "In the Sulz" and ends at Felbergasse in Haselbach. The paved width is three meters, supplemented by a banquet of up to 0.5 meters on both sides, which ensures safe use for pedestrians and cyclists. The costs for the construction amount to around 415,000 euros, whereby 70 percent of the financing is borne by the state of Lower Austria, including funding from Klimaaktiv.mobil.

The construction work was carried out by the Porr company and the funding processing was carried out by the Lower Austria Straßendienst. The market town of Niederhollabrunn bore the costs for the basic redemption, which were made available by affected landowners. The new path is classified as a bicycle road, which allows a passage for agricultural vehicles and set a top speed of 30 km/h for other vehicles in order not to endanger the safety of cyclists. Mayor Jürgen Duffek was pleased with the positive response of the local population, which appreciates the development of the network of cycle paths in the region.

meaning of the project for cycling

The expansion of the bicycle road between Niederhollabrunn and Haselbach is part of a larger initiative to improve the cycling infrastructure in Lower Austria. According to a current analysis, the state needs considerable investments to close the existing gaps in cycling. In recent years, investments of over 20 million euros in 2023 and around 35 million euros in 2021 and 2022 have made progress. Nevertheless, up to 7 billion euros are missing throughout Austria to meet the infrastructural requirements for cycling.

The study shows that 850 kilometers of construction, separate bike paths are necessary in Lower Austria alone. To improve the infrastructure, around 1.7 billion euros are required. A target network of around 5,350 kilometers is sought, in which 20 percent of the infrastructure should be structurally separated. Funding rates of up to 80 percent that apply to the construction of bike paths support municipalities in achieving these goals.

The bicycle road between Niederhollabrunn and Haselbach is a positive step towards sustainability and promotion of cycling. The intended completion of the construction work by mid -December 2024 shows the commitment of the municipality and the country to ensure a well -developed cycling infrastructure in the region. The measures in the cycling area are necessary in order to continue to meet the needs of an increasingly mobile society in the future.

These progress in the cycling infrastructure is an important part of the long -term mobility strategy of Lower Austria, which aims at promoting environmentally friendly means of transport and sustainable urban development.

News and the positive response to the project are in line with the general trend in the region to increase the quality of life through better bike connections. Noen have already reported the positive effects of the new paths, while bike competence has sketched the need for future investments in bicycle traffic.
