New flood protection in St. Veit: 9.1 million euros for security!

supplementary measures and financing

In addition to the flood insulation, technical systems are also being built to ensure that water from the hinterland is efficiently derived. The background to these measures is not only the protection of the region against acute flood events, but also the adaptation to future climatic challenges. According to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism , changes in the drainage among high water are expected between -4% and +10%, which increases the uncertainties in extreme events.

The flood protection project in St. Veit an der Gölsen is not isolated. A total of around 50 such projects are implemented throughout Lower Austria to strengthen the infrastructure in several cities and municipalities such as Gmünd, Ybbsitz and Krems and to minimize the risk of flooding.

The need for such investments is underlined by the general climate and water project in Austria, which examines the effects of climate change on water management. It is emphasized that local and regional measures are decisive in order to react to changing weather conditions and to be able to protect the population effectively.
