New extension at the Roland School: A milestone for Düsseldorf!

An exciting day for the Roland School in Düsseldorf! On Friday, December 6, 2024, the foundation stone was laid for a new extension that will raise the school to a new level. City director Burkhard Hintzsche and other prominent guests, including headmistress Monika Pohl and IPM managing director Michael Köhler, were on site to celebrate this important event. The students had the opportunity to express their wishes for the new building, which only increased the anticipation for the upcoming changes.

The extension building will offer an impressive area of ​​1,330 square meters and is a crucial step to increase the quickness at the community primary school. "With the extension building, the expansion is made possible on Rolandstrasse, so that the elementary school can form one class more per year in the future," said Hintzsche. This measure is a direct answer to the increasing need for school places in the city.

The new building will not only house modern classrooms, but also a multifunctional area with a switchable music room and an innovative Cook & Chill kitchen. On the upper floor, rooms for differentiation offers and a central learning landscape are planned that will offer maximum flexibility for students and teachers. The total costs for this ambitious project amount to around 16 million euros, and the completion is sought for August 2025. In addition, the new building is equipped with a photovoltaic system and a green roof, which makes the school more environmentally friendly.

The Roland School has a long history that goes back to 1957 when the original school complex was designed by architect Paul Schneider-Esleben. The entire location has been listed since 1990 and was extensively renovated almost 20 years ago. With the current expansion work, the school is made fit for the future!
