Lilly elected to the word of 2024: A sign for Alzey's future!

Alzey, Deutschland - "Lilly" was chosen as Alser Word of 2024. The election was decided by the readers of the Alzeyer Zeitung and the term prevailed with a large majority against other candidates. "Lilly" reflects the importance of a project that shaped the region in 2024. The settlement of the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly in Alzey apparently has a strong impact on perception in the region. Eli Lilly has announced the construction of a new production facility in Alzey, which will begin in 2024 and will go into operation in 2027. The investment amount is over 2 billion euros ($ 2.5 billion). The production area will be 30 hectares and designed CO2-free. All roofs of the system are to be equipped with photovoltaic systems. The construction will need around 2,000 workers from the local construction industry.

From 2027, up to 1,000 people are said to be employed directly at Lilly in Alzey. The aim of the new production facility is to expand the location network for injectable medication and injections. Among other things, Eli Lilly produces diabetes medication such as insulin preparations. The decision for the Alzey location was made due to the good infrastructure and well -trained specialists. Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck praised the investment as one of the largest individual economic decisions in Germany.

The settlement takes place without state subsidies. Eli Lilly already has 1,000 employees in Germany, mainly in Bad Homburg, and another production facility is located in Fegersheim, France. It is also expected that the project also creates additional jobs from suppliers. In addition, Lilly may plan the production of the newly approved weight injection in Alzey.
