Fight for Marchfeld-Schnellstraße: Lower Austria's government defends itself!

In the eternal dispute over the planned Marchfeld-Schnellstraße in Lower Austria, there is now a new upswing. The construction was stopped by the Federal Administrative Court (BVWG). In its judgment, the court came to the conclusion that the project would have a significant impairment of the European Protection area. This means a bitter setback for the supporters who have been working for the implementation of the infrastructure project for years. Deputy Governor Udo Landbauer was outraged by this decision. "We are on the side of the population. It cannot be that the citizens' protection and security interests are driven over," he said, as noe.orf.at reported.

In order to proceed against the judgment, Landbauer announced that the state of Lower Austria will take a revision at the Administrative Court and a complaint with the Constitutional Court. The state government would like to exploit all legal options in order to restore the originally approved state. "We are fighting for this important traffic measure in the interests of the entire region, our families and do not give up. The decision is also a deep blow," said Landbauer in ots.at . Marchfeld-Schnellstraße was decided in 2006 with the consent of the three major parties-ÖVP, SPÖ and FPÖ-and is considered important for local transport infrastructure.

Landbauer now calls for clear signals from the new federal government in order to no longer hinder infrastructure projects. "With decades of proceedings for important infrastructure projects, Austria stops and weakens the location even further," criticized the State Council. While the S8 critics celebrate Judges as a victory for environmental policy, supporters remain unclear how things will continue. However, the fight for Marchfeld-Schnellstrasse is far from over.
