Heumarkt project in Vienna: Citizens fight for scandalous violations!
A central theme of Viennese city policy is currently the controversial high -rise project on Heumarkt, which triggers violent controversy. The red-green city government, currently supplemented by the red-neos coalition, is under massive pressure, since the project reports according to different reports, including Apa-OTS . At the moment there is only the environmental impact assessment (RRP) between the construction and the long -sophisticated building permit. Despite the clear guidelines of the UNESCO, the Vienna State Government, the building of the building is not higher than the existing amount of 38 meters, has issued several assessment notices that are supposed to negate the EIPP obligation.
Another decision of declaration that was issued on November 12, 2024 forces civil society to take action again. According to reports from USP , such exams are important to ensure that environmental loads are recognized and evaluated. The city recently received over 20 complaints from residents and environmental organizations such as the "Alliance for Nature" and "Virus" against the new decision. A public negotiation will take place on December 18, 2024. The resistance of the citizens' initiatives is unbroken, and it is expected that all previous objections will have legally valid.
Legal challenges and financial burdens
The necessary legal advice in the objections to the assessment notices is expensive for civil society. The "City Bild Protection" initiative has already announced that it will cover the costs for the lawyers' errors and has collected support of 1,500 euros. According to the elementary office, several violations of the law were found, including the lack of an extraordinary added value for the general public and an ignorant approach to protecting the World Heritage Status. The increase in the high -rise to over 48 meters would massively affect the Belvedere, which could also be used as a legal argument against the project.
