Geothermal energy in polling: future -oriented heat supply for everyone!
Peter Reichenspurner and Bernhard Gubo have launched an ambitious project for the use of geothermal energy in Polling, district of Mühldorf. Led by Erdwärme Inn Bayern GmbH (EWI), the project aims to supply households and businesses with hot water from the deep geothermal energy. The idea for the project was developed over six years ago and has started driving since then.
Since 2018, the “Reichspurner Hof” has been running greenhouses in the neighboring towns of Tüßling and Weiding. EWI recently received the polling field and approval for the use of geothermal deep heat. The drilling, which costs an investment volume of 20 million euros and promoted by the Federal Office for Economics and Export Control (BAFA), began on Maundy Thursday 2024. At the first hole at a depth of around three kilometers, hot depth was discovered, followed by a second successful bore on September 5th.
planned performance and infrastructure
With the project, around 30 megawatts (MW) will be available in the future, which corresponds to an annual amount of around 200,000 megawatt hours (MWh). The construction of the district heating lines to the planned greenhouses in Weiding and Tüßling is already underway, with the aim of providing the connections by the end of 2025. The heat is to be distributed evenly to the greenhouses and willing communities as well as companies.
In addition, the Tüßling market has commissioned a feasibility study for a district heating network. The city of Mühldorf and the Innklinikum also expressed interest in a connection. EWI also receives inquiries from energy -intensive companies that want to settle in the region. The Federal Network Agency is monitored by the prices for heat supply, while Stadtwerke Munich guarantee business over the next few years. The profit zone for the project is expected in about 15 years, and Ewi is already planning a second drilling space to cover future needs.
