Citizens coordinate about wind power in Grünbach - slow process!

Grünbach, Österreich - Grünbach/Sandl. In a pioneering decision, the energy future in the municipality of Grünbach is designed by a referendum on wind power use. A non -partisan Initiative has successfully collected the necessary signatures in order to give the citizens: in the interior law. "From the beginning, our wish was that the community gives its citizens the floor on the question of wind power use," said Philipp Stöger, project manager of Verbund. He emphasized the intention of having the municipality benefited from the region through cheap, clean electricity, which should also be done through investment products and compensation payments. This step shows how important the opinion of the residents is on questions of local energy supply, and was highlighted in the reporting of meinzirk.at.

In the neighboring community of Sandl you go one step further. The construction of the largest wind farm in Upper Austria with a total of 22 wind turbines is planned here. The project operators have already applied for an environmental impact assessment, which Mayor Gerhard Neunteufel rates as an important progress. "For me this is another important step," he said, as reported on ooe.orf.at. These developments illustrate the close interaction between citizens' decisions and environmental compatibility with regard to the increasing energy transition in the region.
