Internet fraudsters in the Christmas rush: How to protect yourself now!
A few days ago, the Austrian internet landscape was recorded by a scandal that does not stop at the highest political personalities. Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) is presented in fraudulent online advertisements as arrested-an extremely alarming and brazen stitch by internet fraudsters who contact unsuspecting users with fake content. As reports, the content is designed in such a way that they appear as if the Chancellor comes directly from television and is involved in violent controversy. The fraudsters manipulate the presentation and use scandalous headlines to generate clicks and stole money.Perfide is the type of fraud attempts: banks and investment platforms are faked, and unsuspecting citizens are tempted to invest money in alleged “quick kingdom” programs that are of course nothing but air bubbles. The stitch even goes so far that Nehammer is titled in a fake interview as a "most influential musician", which only underlines the absurdity of these counterfeits. The warning from the Federal Chancellery is all the more important, the citizens should remain vigilant when using the Internet and report suspicious content immediately.
