Fraudulent SMS duel: Weilheimer loses 140,000 euros!
In a dramatic fraud, a 56-year-old woman from Weilheim has become the victim of a perfidious phishing mesh who cost her over 140,000 euros. Already at the beginning of December, the woman who takes care of the financial matters of her 79-year-old mother received an SMS on her mobile phone. This SMS asked her to verify her bank's authentication app. But the click on the attached link led her to a fake website, where she unknowingly revealed her sensitive bank details, as both the Merkur href = "https://www.augsburger-allgemeine.de/mmersee/weilheim-phising-sms-aus-wehrheim-verliert-140-000-104316654"> Augsburger Allgemeine reported. In the following, the woman received several calls from supposed bank employees who put pressure on them to initiate "reversations" of alleged false bookings. In the assumption that it would correct errors, she allowed the transfers via her authentication app. However, these transfers went to unknown recipient accounts, which means that the fraudsters were able to empty their account almost completely. In addition, access to her online banking was closed to her, which made the situation more difficult.
uncovering the fraud
First a call from the woman at her bank opened the fraud. At this point, most of their savings had already been withdrawn, and there was only a small remaining amount in their account. The police urgently advise you to contact the bank directly for suspicious messages - but not through the specified contact details in the news in order to protect yourself from such sneaky machinations. It is particularly alarming that the female home also received phishing SMS from other banks during this entire fraud process, which underlines the fraudulent professionalism.
