Bank99 paralyzes over Easter: Over 300,000 customers without online access!
From April 18, 2025, Bank99 will be faced with considerable restrictions in online banking for its customers in Austria. As Kosmo , maintenance work takes place during this period that leads to the fact that digital services will not be available for around 300,000 customers. The downtime extends from Friday, 2 p.m. to Monday, 7 a.m. Customers have to prepare for delays in payment transactions.
The bank announces that payment orders will also be processed until 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2025. Later transactions will not be processed until Tuesday, April 22, 2025. In order to avoid unexpected financial bottlenecks, the customer is advised to withdraw enough cash or to use credit cards.
background of the maintenance work
The reason for these drastic measures is the migration of the formerly known banking in the Bank99 system. This integration is in the context of the takeover of the ING-DIBA in 2021 and is a necessary step to create a uniform system. The management of the bank has sent an electronic notification to the customers concerned, but there is still a statement on this matter.
The maintenance work and the associated failures are not the first to have caused excitement in the Austrian banking landscape recently. There were also technical problems with other banks such as Raiffeisen-Bank. According to Kosmo , difficulties occurred at the online banking app "Mein Elba" in the night from Thursday to Friday, which led to temporary failures.
earlier failures and problems
In the past few months, numerous customers have already reported on recurring problems with the online banking of many banks. On April 8, 2025, a user reported that a drawing had not worked for hours, while others reported errors during the transfers. OUTAGEDOWN has collected several such feedback, which shows an idea of the difficulties that many bank customers currently experience in dealing with digital services.
These problems illustrate the dependence of modern banks on stable IT infrastructures and the challenges associated with their maintenance and further development. The series of IT failures implies that both the banks and their customers have to adapt to the need for maintenance work and their temporary restrictions in order to ensure a reliable service quality in the long term.
