Train delays: Research identifies the culprits in the system!

Wien, Österreich - As part of research on train delays, an alarming finding was published that reveals the underlying problems. Researchers have found that certain trains, which are particularly susceptible to delays, put a heavy burden on the entire access network. According to a study published in the journal "NPJ Sustainable Mobility and Transport", these trains contribute significantly to delay cascades, which also negatively affect subsequent connections. Vito Servedio from the CSH said that the identification of critical connections will enable targeted measures to reduce delays. The study focused on the highly frequented southern railway line between the Vienna Central Station and Wiener Neustadt from 2018 to 2020 and identified that trains in early traffic are particularly problematic. In order to effectively reduce the delays, additional short -haul connections could be provided, which resulted in the overall delays in the Austrian rail network of 40 percent, showed simulations.

Current punctuality in rail traffic

Deutsche Bahn recently published its punctuality values and confirmed that in November 60.1 percent of the long -distance trains really drove according to the timetable. This is an increase of 8.1 percent compared to the previous year. Despite these improvements, the stability of punctuality was significantly impaired due to several weeks of impairments, such as a freight accident in Kerpen. The month was also particularly challenging due to storm damage. The DB pursues the demanding goal of achieving punctuality of over 75 percent in long -distance transport by a comprehensive renovation program. This program emphasizes the need for a reliable infrastructure in order to convince both existing and new passengers, as the DB emphasizes.

Another heated point is the increase in economy by using local transport trains with electric railcars. The researchers recognized that similar successes could be achieved with six additional train connections on the southern railway line to reduce delays. If the current situation does not improve, passengers threaten to continue to be confronted with unnecessary delays. The situation requires urgent measures that have to include both system and personnel optimization in order to ensure efficiency and punctuality in the German and Austrian rail network.

Kleine Zeitung reports on critical features, while the Deutsche Bahn has published the current punctuality statistics.
