The traffic situation was more intensified in Thuringia, where a total of 17 accidents were registered on motorways from Friday evening to Saturday morning. black ice warning and traffic impairments in Germany
The winter weather conditions not only led to problems in Göttingen. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), there was a risk of black ice on Sunday. The DWD warned of smooth roads and recommended that, if possible, to stay at home. Snow moved from the southwest to northeastern Germany, which already resulted in numerous traffic accidents and disabilities. The transition from snow to freezing rain is particularly dangerous. In the Frankfurt area, the authorities reported on restrictions in flight and rail traffic. On Sunday morning alone, 17 accidents were registered in the Koblenz, Rhineland-Palatinate area due to snow or freezing wetness, in which a slightly injured person was to be complained about. In Hesse, too, numerous accidents occurred with several injuries, for example, a small van on a stray vehicle and a car from the federal police overturned on the A81, with five officials suffering minor injuries.
In addition, there was snow bruch in the Eifel and in the Westerwald, which had to be removed by the emergency services. The onset of winter also influenced air traffic, whereby 120 out of 1090 planned flights were canceled in Frankfurt. Travelers were advised to inform themselves directly from their airlines. The long -distance traffic of Deutsche Bahn in the Frankfurt area was also limited. On Monday, rain will be expected in the northern half of Germany, while dry conditions are predicted in the south.-transmitted by West-Ost-Medien
