Safety technology brings a decline in violent offenses at train stations!
In 2024, a decline in violent offenses was recorded at the train stations in Bremen, Hamburg and Hanover. According to the current figures of Buten from January to November there was a total of 1,610 violent offenses, which corresponds to a decline by 8.7 percent compared to 2023. However, the number of attacks on trains rose to 420, which corresponds to an increase of 6.9 percent.
In particular in regional transport, there were an increase in crimes that climbed from 175 to 190 (8.6 percent). In contrast, the number of offenses in high -speed trains fell from 35 to 28, which made a decrease of 20 percent. However, the exact figures for the distribution of violent offenses to the individual train stations were not published.
Security measures of Deutsche Bahn
In order to improve the security situation in train stations and trains, Deutsche Bahn has implemented a comprehensive plan, as reported Inside-Digital . The federal police registered almost 50,000 crimes in the first half of 2024, including 13,543 violent offenses. These crimes make up about 0.8 percent of all offenses recorded in Germany. In order to counteract the increase in crimes, a network of 11,000 cameras will be installed at around 750 train stations by the end of 2024, which has almost doubled since 2012.
The program for the expansion of video technology was started in 2020, and since then the number of dissolved cases has already been tripled. At most stations, multi-sensor cameras with full HD resolution are used, which monitor the security situation from more than 30,000 perspectives. Only the federal police have access to the video images and refer to the support of the project with a subsidy of the federal government.
In addition, the research project "Security Center" is carried out in cooperation between the Federal Police and the Deutsche Bahn. In addition to new security concepts that are currently being tested, such as at the Berlin Südkreuz station, the development of the "Safenow" app is also promoted, which enables an unobtrusive request to help at train stations.
