FASSPRAGE REVOLUTION: Direct connection Munich - Milan and Rome from 2026!
Travelers from Germany can look forward to an innovative connection between Germany and Italy. From December 2026, a direct connection with the high -speed train FRECCIAROSSA from Munich to Milan and Rome via Innsbruck will be offered. This announcement was announced in Munich by ÖBB, Deutsche Bahn (DB) and Trenitalia. The new offer promises a faster and transfer -free trip to the popular Italian metropolises.
The travel times are particularly attractive: the route from Munich to Milan is covered in about six and a half hours, while the connection to Rome takes around eight and a half hours. This represents a time saving of a good 75 minutes to Milan and 45 minutes to Rome compared to the previous travel option. The FRECCIAROSSA train has its pace particularly on the express route between Bologna and Rome and thus enables a quick progress.
expansion of connections and future plans
In the first two years after the introduction of the new connection, further routes to Berlin and Naples are to be gradually added. First of all, one connection is offered each day, with the aim of increasing the frequency on five return journeys between Germany, Austria and Italy every day. This will be part of a cross -border pilot project, which is supported by the European Commission.
With the opening of the Brenner Base Tunnel, there will also be a significant shortening of travel times by about an hour. This represents significant progress in the connection of Austria to the Italian high-speed network, which should further increase the attractiveness of rail transport.
technical adjustments and comfort
The 200 -meter -long FRECCIAROSSA 1000 is technically adapted for the company in Germany and Austria. Subsequently, test and approval trips are planned in Germany, Austria and Italy. If the approval is approved, the first passengers will be able to travel with the new high -speed train in December 2026.
The FRECCIAROSSA 1000 reaches speeds of up to 360 km/h and is designed for use with speeds of up to 400 km/h. The trains offer four different comfort classes, including standard, premium, business and executive. These are also equipped with WLAN, sockets, bristle restaurants and special areas for wheelchair users.
a step into a climate -friendly future
This new project fits into the greater context of the efforts to expand high -speed traffic in Europe. A current study by Deutsche Bahn shows that the goal is to double the capacities in European high -speed traffic by 2030 and even triple by 2050. This is in accordance with the environmental goals of the European Union, which aim to significantly reduce CO2 emissions in the traffic sector.
A total of 21,000 kilometers of rail network must be new and expanded in order to meet the requirements of the "Green Deal". Therefore, the cooperation between ÖBB, Deutsche Bahn and Trenitalia is not only considered to strengthen international long -distance transport, but also as an important step towards more climate -friendly mobility.
