Rescue for the Rheinbähnle? Association fights against bridge construction!
The future of the historic Rheinbähnle is on the brink! This charming narrow -gauge railway, once used as a company train for international Rhine regulation and today a popular tourist attraction, faces a serious threat. The planned construction site for a new slow traffic bridge, which is due to affect Rheindamm from autumn 2025, simply ignores the railway tracks of the railway. "We were informed at the very end," complains Obmann Heine from the Rhein-Schauen association, which operates the Rheinbähnle, in an interview with Vol.at.
The association is currently desperate: the new bridge will make the use of the tracks impossible and thus endanger the economic survival of the association. "When the whole thing is restricted, we gradually die - so our feeling is. That disappointed us. Sometimes we are really frustrated," says Heine, the worries of the members. In view of these developments, the association has decided not to stand by and plan to take all the necessary steps to save the historical route, and legal measures are also not excluded. "If it is not traded now, I see black: it is quite possible that our club is no longer available in three or four years," warns Heine. As vorarlberg.orf.at , the members in particular blame the planners of the new bridge that the railway tracks have not taken into account, although considerable funds were invested in the association.
of the approximately 240 members come from Switzerland, which are surprising about the circumstances in Austria. "The Swiss colleagues are really amazed that this is possible with us. That would be unthinkable in Switzerland in this way," said Heine. This international perspective brings additional weight into the demands of the association to rethink the route and find a solution that takes into account both the historical railway and the new bridge.
