Austria's ÖBB shines in the European railway ranking-top 4 reached!
In a new study by the NGO Transport & Environment (T&E), 27 European railway companies were put through its paces. It was noticed that higher ticket prices do not necessarily go hand in hand with better service. The Italian Trenitalia, the Swiss SBB and the Czech regiojet stood out particularly positively. Trenitalia impressed with an excellent travel experience, the SBB was awarded the most punctual company in Europe, and the Regiojet scored with unbeatable prices. In contrast, the Eurostar, which was criticized for its high prices and unreliable connections. The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) were able to secure a strong fourth position in the overall ranking and shone primarily in the booking process, such as Transport & Environment.
ÖBB shines despite challenges
The ÖBB achieved the full score in the night train category and was also able to convince with 8.2 out of 10 points and discounts with 8.8 out of 10 points in the travel experience. This represents a positive aspect compared to other large providers such as the SNCF and Deutsche Bahn, which are poorly cut in this study. The results clearly show that numerous railway companies, despite high ticket prices, fail in the quality of the services. A reform of the industry is urgently necessary to make the railway more attractive as an environmentally friendly means of transport.
