New rail schedule: Bremerhaven loses IC, night trains conquer the route!
On December 15, 2024, the new Winter Tababilia of Deutsche Bahn came into force, which brings numerous changes to the access requirement. The new night trains and direct connections, such as the additional ICE connection from Bremen to Berlin, are particularly noteworthy. This new connection reduces the travel time to just 2 hours and 45 minutes and now also ties larger cities such as Wolfsburg, Hanover and Göttingen to popular travel destinations such as Frankfurt and Zurich. However, the IC connection from Bremerhaven to Cologne was deleted due to low demand, which is sharply criticized by Bremerhaven Mayor Melf Grantz (SPD), as NDR reports .
disappointment about the new timetable
The Pro Bahn passenger association criticized the current changes as inadequate. The regional chairman Gerd Aschoff said that the new timetable does not offer significant improvements in public transport in southern Lower Saxony. In addition, many trains are overcrowded, especially on the heavily frequented routes of Göttingen, and the capacities are not sufficient to cope with the increase in passengers. Aschoff also demands a compression of the clocks of the trains to become more attractive for new travelers, which the situation on hna illustrates.
Despite this criticism, the price structure in the region remains stable, since the transport association South Lower Saxony has dispensed with a driving price increase. However, expectations of a sustainable turnover turn are high and have not yet been sufficiently met. The introduction of the new night-time and the weekend connections to the Black Forest shows that there are definitely efforts to expand and improve long-distance traffic.
