New S-Bahn line revolutionizes traffic between Halle and Querfurt!
A true progress for Saxony-Anhalt! On December 11, 2024, it became known that the regional railway line between Halle and Querfurt is now being converted into a new S-Bahn line S11. A whopping 22 million euros flow into the modernization of this important transport connection, which not only benefits the commuters, but also excursions. From the coming weekend, the S11 will be on the previous route of the RB78 regional railway, with three trips per hour between Halle and Merseburg. The travel time will be 55 to 59 minutes in the future and will include more than a dozen stations. This is intended to increase the daily passenger numbers from around 500 to 1,000, reports n-tv .
modernization of the route for comfort and accessibility
Deutsche Bahn has already made great progress in the course of this restructuring: it modernized tracks and seven stations, including Merseburg-Bergmannsring and the future Pfännerhall in Braunsbedra Ost. All new stops are now barrier-free and offer travelers step-free entry and exit. The platforms have a uniform height of 55 centimeters and are equipped with new benches, weather protection houses and showcases that significantly increase the quality of stay. In addition, passenger information systems and energy-saving LED lighting were installed. For the year 2028, further modernizations are planned at five other stops, as can be seen from s-bahn-mitteldeutschland.de
