New Huntbrücke: Construction of the pedestrian paths is now secured!

in Elsfleth, Lower Saxony, a significant progress in building a new railway bridge over the Hunte is bought after an existing bridge was severely damaged by a ship's accident. As the deputies Beate Logemann (SPD) and Björn Thümler (CDU) explained, the financing of the new bridge and an urgently demanded foot and cycle path is now secured. This was decided during a meeting with representatives of the Deutsche Bahn and the Lower Saxony Ministry of Transport, which is evaluated as a positive development shortly before Christmas, such as Nwzonline reported.

sustainable solutions required

The new building not only ensures the infrastructural connection, but also has an impact on shipping in the region. At the moment, local business locations have to accept a limited access to the Oldenburg port, since the planned makeshift bridge is immobile and thus only grants small inland ships. Therefore, numerous stakeholders, including the Oldenburg city administration, call for an alternative folding or turning bridge for a complete ship connection. However, Minister Olaf Lies (SPD) had clarified that the ideal solution was only available with the new building, which the situation for the port will not be defused for the time being, as Butnen

The MPs Logemann and Thümler urge the construction preparations as quickly as possible in order to be able to put the "Friesenbrücke 2.0" into operation by 2027, which means a significant saving compared to other plans. The urgency is also underlined by holding ammunition features and the need for reliable rail connection for grain import from Ukraine. The condition of the current makeshift bridge is therefore not only an infrastructural, but also a security policy concern.
