MVV expansion: cheaper tickets and new regions from 2025!
MVV expansion: cheaper tickets and new regions from 2025!
An important step for the Munich Transport Association (MVV) is imminent! From January 1, 2025, the borders of the MVV area expand considerably when the Landsberg on Lech and Weilheim-Schongau officially join. Just a year later, on January 1, 2026, the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen will also be part of the association, such as both the Munich as well as t-online.de reports. This will increase the population of the MVV area by around 90,000 people and the area by 1,000 square kilometers to a total of 11,365 square kilometers. The district council of Garmisch-Partenkirchen unanimously voted for accession, which is an important goal of five years of effort, said District Administrator Anton Speer.
tariff improvements for passengers
With the integration into the MVV, passengers will benefit from significantly cheaper ticket prices. In the future, the price for a simple ride from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Mittenwald will only be 1.90 euros instead of 6.60 euros. Other connections are also adjusted in terms of price: the trip from Murnau to Oberammergau drops from 9 euros to 5.80 euros, and the route from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Munich will be available for 23.90 euros instead of 26 euros. In addition, the bus driving prices, such as those from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Ettal, are reduced to EUR 3.90 (so far 6.20 euros). These innovations are not only an advantage for local passengers, but also for tourism, since the standardization of prices and timetables makes public transport more attractive.
Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter supports these changes and sees integration as a positive development for the region and passengers. The inclusion of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district in the MVV system is an important step in the direction of a better connection and more environmentally friendly travel, especially for tourists at Munich Airport, which will have less to struggle with different traffic systems in the future.
