Modernization of the SMAMERING: Vienna invests 150 million!
Simmering, Wien, Österreich - The Viennese networks are making massive efforts to raise the power supply in the capital to a new level. The Simmering substation is currently being modernized extensively, with one of the largest switchgear of Europe being created. This is part of a large -scale investment of around 150 million euros, which contributes to improving and ensuring energy supply in Vienna, as the ORF Vienna reported. The fourth transformer with an impressive performance of 300 megawatts, which corresponds to about 60 million LEDs, was only recently delivered by train. The transport of the 300 -ton device requires complex crane work before it can be moved to its final position. The completion of the entire system is planned for 2026.
innovations for a greener future
These advanced work is also supported by the environmental city council Ulli Sima, which emphasizes that sustainable energy supply is of central importance. As also highlighted by the Wiener Netze , the renewal of the SMAMERING substation should contribute to achieving the goals of the city in relation to climate neutrality and the integration of renewable energies. With an impressive security of supply of 99.99 percent, Viennese networks are among the safest in Europe, which is crucial for the daily electricity requirements of over two million people. In addition, there are currently also other substations in the port of the Alber, which are intended to relieve the pension areas of Kaiserebersdorf and Schwechat.
The continuous investments and modernizations in the power grid are not only crucial for security of supply, but are also regarded as an economic impulse for the region. The Viennese networks rely on materials and services from local companies to promote economic stability. By 2024, further investments of 346 million euros are planned in the infrastructure, which will serve both climate protection and sustainability.
