Frankfurt Central Station: Square for two trains from May 2025!

Frankfurt Central Station, as one of the most important traffic hubs in the German rail network, will be expanded to include decisive capacities from May 2025. Deutsche Bahn (DB) is planning extensive measures to improve rail traffic, including the introduction of new “train coverage signals” on several tracks.

A total of 10, 11 and 14 to 17 additional signals are installed on the tracks 10, 11 and 14 to 17. These new signals will divide the tracks into two sections, which enables a second train to drive in while there is already a train. This improvement aims to increase the current train frequency, which is already over 1,400 trains per day, to 1,700 trains as part of the Germany clock.

Overview of the construction work

The construction work begins in January 2025 and include the search for potential world war bombs and cable deep construction. According to information from

The commissioning of the new signals is planned for mid -May 2025. Deutsche Bahn announced that further construction projects will be initiated by autumn 2027, including the new building of platform 25 and a new, longer platform at the Südbahnhof for track 9/10. In the early 2030s, the construction of a new distant railway tunnel should also begin to further increase capacity.

More on this, as Fnp is based on a more flexible organization of rail traffic from May 2025.
