Cottbus: Successful ICE maintenance ensures the best driving comfort!

Deutsche Bahn (DB) draws a positive conclusion after a year of ICE maintenance in Cottbus. In the newly built workshop, 13 ICE 4 were processed for maintenance in the first year with over 160 cars. The last revision 2024 was easily completed prematurely, which made it possible to use many trains about the Christmas season and reliable connections for travelers.

From 2025, a seven -part ICE 4 will be kept in the workshop in Cottbus for the first time. In order to bundle maintenance for all ICE 4 types, the DB has moved the severe maintenance work to Cottbus. A total of 137 trains of the ICE 4 form the backbone of DB off-road traffic. Originally, several works were to be provided for the maintenance of the ICE 4. However, the existing infrastructure and the expertise of the teams in Cottbus led to the fact that maintenance is now being merged.

innovations in the workshop

The Hall 2 in Cottbus is specially optimized for the IS 600, the smaller of the two heavy maintenance levels. The trains can enter the hall in full length and in their own strength, which increases efficiency. In addition, the employees have the opportunity to work on three levels at the same time. For a quick replacement of the bogies, the overhead lines within the hall can be swiveled to the side, which facilitates access to air conditioning systems and electricity customers.

For 2025, a total of 24 ICE 4 are planned for revision in Cottbus, 14 trains in Hall 2 are passed through the larger maintenance level IS 700. This extensive maintenance takes place after a mileage of 3.3 million kilometers. In January 2024, the construction of Hall 1 began on another part of the factory area, which is also used for the IS 700. Due to these measures, the DB creates a total of 1,200 new training and industrial workplaces in Cottbus, while the maintenance teams are preparing for the full commissioning of the new work.
