Bridge tear in Hanau: rail traffic before Christmas disturbed!

Hanau, Deutschland - The demolition of a dilapidated bridge at Hanau Central Station will have a serious impact on rail traffic. This construction site will provide chaos from December 26th to January 4th. Deutsche Bahn (DB) announced that both long-distance and local transport would be severely restricted during this time. The connection between Hamburg and Frankfurt is particularly affected, where trains are extended by up to 30 minutes. The popular ICE line from Dresden via Erfurt to Frankfurt will only drive to the Frankfurt main train station, which means additional detours for travelers.

replacement traffic and timetable changes

The effects are also clear in local transport. The RB51 regional railway line between Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof and Wolfgang/Bad Soden-Salmünster is completely canceled, while other train connections are diverted with changed travel times and hold. Travelers also have to adapt to replacement buses in S-Bahn traffic, since the S-Bahn lines of the Lines S8 and S9 will no longer drive to Hanau Central Station. Instead, bus traffic is available that picks up travelers at the transition stations, but without space for bicycles.

The old bridge, a building from 1958, is demolished because a renovation is not possible. The renewal work should be completed by 2027, with a total budget of 56 million euros, of which the DB takes over half, while the state of Hesse contributes around 18 million euros. The first demolition work begins on December 30th at 12:00 p.m. with the lifting of the first bridge segment, as the city administration of Hanau reports. Travelers on the important route from Hanau to Frankfurt, where around 97 trains normally run every day and only need the fastest connections for 14 minutes, should find out well about the current lists and timetable changes before driving to avoid unnecessary delays, as is on ThetRainline is highlighted.
