Schweinfurt, Deutschland - alarm mood in the Lower Franconian industry! Schaeffler, the renowned automotive and industrial supplier, has announced that it will reduce around 4,700 jobs across Europe- a shock that shakes the industry! In Germany alone, 2,800 jobs are to be omitted, and the Schweinfurt location is particularly hard: almost 500 jobs are in danger by the end of 2027. The merger with Vitesco, which was celebrated a month ago, now seems like a deceptive promise!

The CEO Klaus Rosenfeld emphasizes that these drastic measures are necessary to ensure competitiveness in the long term. From 2029, 290 million euros are to be saved annually - part of it by merging with Vitsco. And how is the breakdown designed? The motto is “as socially acceptable as possible”, but many employees already feel abandoned. The works council warns that the actual number of job cancellations in Schweinfurt could even be around 700 - an unprecedented attack on the location!

The IG Metall raises the alarm and sees in these plans a fatal signal for the workforce. "Four weeks ago we celebrated the merger. Now it is time for thousands that they no longer belong," explains Thomas Höhn, first authorized representative of IG Metall Schweinfurt. The pressure on the employees is growing during Wednesday, November 6th, the works council informs about the next steps. The union vehemently demands discussions about alternatives to reduce jobs and insists on the fact that the future agreement with Schaeffler is observed.
