Massive layoffs at Diehl: 330 employees in Zehdenick affected!
Zehdenick. A shock for Diehl Advanced Mobility! The electric automotive supplier, the largest employer in the city, is planning the massive clear cut of 330 jobs-half of the workforce! This bombastic announcement came at a company meeting and causes excitement among the employees. Around 660 people currently work here who have to worry about their future.
The management set has decided not to extend temporary contracts and to start a "volunteer program", in which 153 permanent employees are supposed to leave the company voluntarily. Anyone who strikes by the end of October 2024 attracts an extra bonus. These measures raise questions: What should become of the Zehdenick location?
The judgment of IG Metall
The IG Metall Oranienburg expresses significant criticism of this decision. Anne Borchelt, second representative of IG Metall, describes the terminations as "short -sighted and gross negligence". She emphasizes that the electric automotive industry has enormous growth potential and that it is now important to think about creative solutions to secure jobs instead of putting people at the door.
Borchelt calls for a responsible handling of the employees and notes: "Instead of acting in a relationship of responsibility, the working burden could be better distributed by shortened working hours." The union is determined to fight for the future of the location and the preservation of jobs in Zehdenick - a dramatic call to action, while the employees have to fight with the uncertainty that this job cuts brings.
