Ford Cologne in the crisis: 2,000 jobs affected by short -time work!

Köln, Deutschland - alarm mood at Ford in Cologne! Around 2,000 employees have to prepare for short -time work, as the works council chief Benjamin Gruschka unveiled. From Monday, November 18, production in vehicle production will be temporarily shut down. The reason? A dramatic decline in demand for electric cars!

The weak market conditions forcing Ford to adapt production in Cologne Electric Vehicle Center. The demand for the new electric models, including the Explorer and the Capri, remains far behind the expectations. In order to secure economic stability, work will rest for three weeks, with a change between production and rest weeks and the Christmas holidays. An internal letter shows that the production is reduced from 630 to 480 vehicles per week, which could also lead to production -free days in the first quarter of 2025.

The crisis of electromobility

The situation is alarming: not only Ford is fighting with the falling sales figures, other automobile manufacturers in Germany also feel the effects. Gruschka urgently calls for state support to promote electromobility to reduce consumers' uncertainty. Every electric car not sold is another problem for the Cologne plant that specializes in the production of these vehicles.

The dark reality: Ford has already broken down thousands of positions in Cologne in recent years. Of almost 20,000 employees in 2018, only about 13,000 are left. This continuous reduction in the workforce shows the precarious situation of the company and the challenges that the automotive industry currently has to manage.
