Appeal of the climate activists: Court rejects protest against A94
A dramatic chapter in the fight against climate change: Three young climate activists who rope from a bridge over the A 94 Autobahn in September 2021 have lost their appeal before the Munich II District Court. The judges rejected the appeals of the 19, 20 and 21 year old accused and confirmed the judgment of the Ebersberg district court, which the activists had sentenced to fines of 657 euros each.
The activists had drawn attention to themselves with their spectacular protest against car traffic. But the process took a surprising turn: On the penultimate day of the trial, the young people waived a plea and their self -proclaimed legal benefits no longer competed. It is speculated that you develop a new strategy to call the Federal Constitutional Court as the last instance after you have already appealed to the Bavarian Supreme Regional Court.
traffic jam and outrage: the consequences of the protest
The protest of the activists led to a kilometer -long traffic jam on the A 94, which put drivers into rage. The police had to block the highway to secure the activists, and it took an hour and a half for the Alpine mountain rescue to get the young people off the bridge. Hundreds of drivers were outraged and submitted advertisements against the activists. Two years later, they stood in front of the Ebersberg district court, where they were passionate about their cause.
The history of the climate activists is not yet over. With the written judgment of the regional court in the pipeline, there could soon be further legal skirmishes, while the group hopes for a final decision by the Federal Constitutional Court. Public attention remains high, and the debate about the right to protest and the limits of the activism methods continues.
