Sofia Polcanova did it again! She prevailed at the European Home Championship in Linz and impressively defended her title. The Linzer was now crowned the Upper Austria of the year for the third time, after her success in 2018 and 2022. In the second and three, last year's winner Susanne Gogl-Walli came from the field of athletics and swimmer Lena Kreundl. This honor shows how strongly Polcanova is represented in international sport, and not only at the European Championship, but also in numerous other competitions.
In the men, on the other hand, the Mühlviertler Florian Brungraber caused a stir, because he secured the title "Upper Austria of the Year" and the first para athlete since 2012. The silver medalist of the Paralympics in Paris also reached second place at the World Cup and EM and was also awarded Austria's Triathlete and Europe Paratriathlete of the Year. Brungraber prevailed against well -known greats such as Lukas Weißhaidinger - four -time winner in this category - and swimmer Martin Espernberger.
climb in team sport and honors
In the category "Upper Austria of the Year", the handball men of HC Linz AG celebrated a comeback. They won their first championship title since 1996 and won this award for the first time since 1993. It is clear proof of the excellent performance in team sport in Upper Austria. The occasion was duly celebrated, and the 50th anniversary edition of the official athlete election was reminiscent of the beginnings when the first award winners were awarded in 1975
In addition to this gratifying news, the district women's board was re -elected at the SPÖ Linz. Karin Hörzing was once again elected district women's chairman with an overwhelming 96.3 percent. Under the motto "stay tuned and pull through", the Linz social democrats are committed to better legal regulation to protect women from violence. In addition, they demanded that a chair for gender medicine at the University of Linz to improve health care for both genders. This initiative was accompanied by a reading by linguist Luise Pusch, who spoke about gender -friendly language.
