Students in Cloppenburg learn communication with VR glasses!

The vocational schools (BBS) in Cloppenburg go into the future of learning with an innovative approach and will in future use virtual reality (VR) glasses in class. The aim of the project is to improve the communication skills of the students. The project is supported by the district of Cloppenburg, the two schools, the BBS am Museumsdorf and BBS Technik, each with 15 VR glasses. The schools are part of the “Virtual Communication Center” project, which was initiated by BBS Wechloy in Oldenburg. Seven schools take part in this project.

The main goal of the project is to improve the students' communication and presentation skills. Through training in virtual presentations and interviews, the students should increase their expressiveness and self -confidence. VR technology is also used to learn languages and simulate practical scenarios. The project partner is the Osnabrück company VReedback, which has developed special VR training software. This software should prepare the students for the requirements of the modern working world.

interactive learning experiences

At a kick-off event, Ludger Bockhorst, department head of BBS am Museumsdorf, and Peter Trenkamp from BBS Technik received the VR glasses. The students now have the opportunity to gain realistic experiences and to receive detailed feedback. The VR applications enable the virtual staging and recording of conversations that are then analyzed. The focus is on aspects such as grammar, vocabulary, filling words, body language and eye contact. Based on interactive games, the students are gradually introduced to the technology to prepare them for real challenges.

In the coming months, further needs should also be determined and the concept and the technology will be continuously developed. This project marks an important step for digitization in education in the district of Cloppenburg.

In addition to this innovative approach, BBS Wechloy and its partner Vreedback from Osnabrück in Berlin was awarded the Comenius Edumedia Siegel 2024. The award is awarded by the Society for Pedagogy, Information and Media e.V. (GPI) and recognizes the BBS Wechloy's virtual communication center, which promotes communication skills through virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI). Learners can simulate real conversation situations in a safe, interactive environment, whereby the didactic concept includes gamified individual training, practical exercises and self -reflection.

The Comenius awarded the Comenius Awards took place in the house of the Federal Press Conference in Berlin, and the GPI tested around 150 submissions from several European countries. The software is still being developed for German as a second language/foreign language in order to create an individualized learning environment and to reduce the language barriers of the learners. BBS Wechloy thus uses standards for digital education and invites other schools to test new learning formats, such as nwzonline reported and BBS Wechloy wrote .
