Guldbaggen Awards: Queen Silvia's accent surprises the audience!

On January 13, 2025, the 60th Guldbaggen Awards will take place in Stockholm. The event is organized by the Swedish film institute and distinguishes the best Swedish films of 2024. The ceremony takes place in the Stockholm Cirkus and is transferred live to SVT1.

The moderator of the gala is the Iranian-Swedish actress and singer Shima Niavarani. She had caused a sensation last year when she joke about Queen Silvia, who referred to her German accent. Niavarani compared the Queen's accent to that of Christina Schollin who presented the award for the best film.

Queen Silvia, who comes from Heidelberg, has lived in Sweden for almost 50 years and has an audible German accent. In her biography, she explained that her accent was part of her personality. She expressed understanding of the questions about her accent and said that she came to Sweden at the age of 32 and already spoke six languages.

Queen Silvia married King Carl Gustaf in 1976 and has been the popular Queen of Sweden ever since. Since 2011 she has been the longest reigning regent in Swedish history. On the occasion of the Guldbaggen Gala, Prince Daniel will be sent as representative of the palace this year because the event celebrates its 60th anniversary.

The Guldbaggen Awards include numerous categories, including Best Editing, Best Sound Design and Best Visual Effects. "Crossing" and "From Darkness" have been nominated for the Best Editing category. In the area of best sound design, films such as "Heartbeat" and "Jönssonligan Kommer Tillbaka" stand out. In the Best Visual Effects category, “Stockholm Bloodbath” and “XXL” are called.

The award for the audience award will also be announced, while the Gullspiran has not yet been awarded.
