FCK appointed team of 2024 - Triumph after relegation worries!
The 1st FC Kaiserslautern was recently elected as the "Team of 2024" in Rhineland-Palatinate. This award was awarded by the State Sports Association of Rhineland-Palatinate as part of a gala in Mainz. The FCK received 23.8 percent of the vote and thus secured first place. The Gladiators Trier, who received 19.7 percent of the vote, were placed in second place, followed by the Judo women of the JSV Speyer with 19.5 percent.
The 1st FC Kaiserslautern had narrowly escaped the relegation from the second Bundesliga last season and also reached the final of the DFB Cup. Under coach Markus Begin, the team showed a strong first half of the season and played without relegation. This marks the sixth award for the FCK, which was previously obtained in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2022.

In addition to the honor for the team of the year, individual athletes were also awarded. Gesa Krause, who is active in the 3000-meter obstacle, won the election as athlete of the year with 23.2 percent of the vote. Julian Weber secured the title of the athlete of the year with 21.2 percent. Krause had reached 14th place after her baby break at the Olympic Finale in Paris, while Weber took sixth place in the javelin throw at the Olympic Games.
The gala, in which the honors took place, also brought results for the other placed in the athletes of the year. Sophia Junk from LG Rhein-Wied was second, followed by the deaf tennis player Heike Albrecht-Schröder from GSV Neuwied. In the male athletes, Erik Hess, a deaf sports shooter, and defending champion Fabian Vogel took second and third place in trampoline jumping.
