Honorary Citizenship for Sonja and Reinhard Ernst: Wiesbaden honors Kulturschaffer!
Wiesbaden, Deutschland - Wiesbaden experienced a festive highlight today: the city's honorary law was awarded to the couple Sonja and Reinhard Ernst. Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende celebrated the extraordinary merits of the two for the cultural development of Wiesbaden in an emotional speech. This honor was special because there was such a award again for the first time since 2006 and a couple were awarded together for the first time. Sonja Ernst is also the second honorary citizen in the history of the city, after the painter Christa Moering. The high award recognizes their commitment by the Reinhard & Sonja Ernst Foundation, which supports a multitude of non-profit projects, especially for children and adolescents. Mende emphasized that the recently opened Museum Reinhard Ernst is an important achievement for the international art scene and makes an enormous contribution to the cultural radiance of the city.
The Museum> Reinhard Ernst , which opened in 2024, is home to around 60 significant works of modern and abstract art from Reinhard Ernst's impressive collection, which includes a total of 960 works. The building designed by the Japanese architect Fumihiko Maki is an architectural highlight and offers access to breathtaking works of art in 2,500 square meters of exhibition space, including pieces by renowned artists such as Tony Cragg, Damien Hirst and Helen Frankenthaler - whose works present the world's largest collection here. The museum not only offers the highest enjoyment of art, but also attaches great importance to education and cultural participation by organizing special events and exhibitions for children and young people.
