Federal Minister Return honors Austria's best mathematics!

On June 3, 2025, a special award took place at the Wien Pedagogical University: Education Minister Christoph Verkehr honored the federal winners of the renowned mathematics competition "Kangaroo of Mathematics". This competition is not only a competition, but also an important project to promote the joy of mathematics and to strengthen logical thinking.

"Kangaroo of mathematics" is one of the largest international student competitions in the field of mathematics. Every year, millions of students from more than 100 countries take part. This year alone, there were over 100,000 participants from different school and age groups in Austria, which underlines the relevance and popularity of the competition. The competition is an example of successful promoting young talent in the MINT area, which includes mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology, such as Education-Research.digital.

fostering interest in mathematics

The mathematics competition aims to make mathematical talents visible and to arouse enthusiasm for the MINT area. Competitions like this not only support students in dealing with mathematical questions, but also promoting the development of problem -solving skills and analytical thinking. In addition, the possibility is offered to gain competencies at an early stage by participating.

The organization of the competition is carefully thought out. Participants who do not use a digital response note were able to enter their data online from March 20 to March 28, 2025. This happened in several steps, with registration on a password -protected website. The answers were also recorded online after the competition, which simplified the handling for schools and participants, such as math kangaroo explained in detail.

MINT as a central education area

The "Kangaroo of Mathematics" initiative is continued as part of the National MINT campaign plan. The Federal Ministry of Education pursues a holistic approach to promoting the MINT formation, which includes several measures along the educational chain. This includes not only student competitions such as "Jugend research", but also the creation of MINT clusters that coordinate and expand various offers for young people.

The MINT training offers are to be further improved by initiatives such as the "5-point plan for more MINT skills". The action fields include the cooperation between school and extracurricular activities and the involvement of families to inspire children and young people for MINT professions and courses. All of these measures underline the importance of the MINT formation, which is essential not only for the individual development of children, but also for the future of society.

With the award of the federal winners, Education Minister Christoph Return shows how important it is to promote these talents and offer them a platform. Competitions such as "Kangaroo of Mathematics" are crucial to arouse and further expand the mathematical and technological interest of the next generation.
