Romania choice in chaos: the highest court checks votes for scandal!

Bukarest, Rumänien - In Romania, a political shock is emerging associated with the presidential elections. The surprising rise of right -wing extremist and Russia -friendly candidate Calin Georgescu has made headlines. In the event of his victory, Georgescu plans to end the previous support for Ukraine and at the same time stop the Ukrainian grain exports through Romania. This could lead to a drastic turn of Romanian foreign policy after the country has acted as a strategic partner for Kiev since the Russian War in Ukraine. In an interview with Reuters, Georgescu said that support from Romania will definitely stop the Ukraine if he wins the elections.

uncertainty before runoff election

After the first round of the election, in which Georgescu surprisingly emerged with 22.94 percent of the votes, the political future of Romania is overshadowed by the decision of the Supreme Court, which ordered a review and counting of the votes. This measure results from doubt about the proper execution of the choice. Georgescu is challenged by the relatively unknown center-right politician Elena Lasconi, who came to 19.17 percent. The runoff election stands for December 8th, but the results of the first ballot must be confirmed up to a specified date, which makes the execution of the runoff vote unsafe, such as FR.DE reported.

The Romanian Presidential Office has also expressed concerns about the possible election of the election by the social network TikTok. According to official bodies, Georgescu benefited significantly from his presence on social media, which had given him "preferred treatment". Before the runoff election, "immediate measures" were required to examine possible impairments by TikTok, while the platform rejects the allegations and speaks of "false and misleading" claims. In the meantime, the geopolitical situation of Romania, especially in view of the strategic importance for NATO and the Ukraine conflict, remains tense because 5,000 NATO soldiers are stationed in the country.
