New government start: Pharmaceutical industry urgently demands reforms!

The new federal government now has the reins in hand, and the pharmaceutical industry is ready to make its contribution to the future health of people in Austria. Mag. Alexander Herzog, General Secretary of Pharmig, congratulated the newly appointed members of the government and emphasized the commitment of the industry as an employer and innovator in the health system. However, he underlined that current framework conditions seriously endanger the competitiveness of the industry. As OTS reported, Duke for urgently needed reforms in order to secure the medicine supply in Austria in the long term.

In his appeal, Herzog pointed out the challenges that burden the pharmaceutical industry, including an unfavorable pricing policy and unexpected bureaucratic hurdles. These factors make sustainable action difficult and endanger security of supply. Herzog said: "The national stock and excessive financial burdens, such as the planned wastewater guideline, press the attractiveness of Austria as an important production location for medicinal products", as well as the Federal Ministry of Health emphasized.

Duke named several open construction sites, including the need for a contemporary benefit assessment of new medicines and clear legislation for pricing. Despite positive approaches in the new government program, it remains unclear which specific measures are taken to address these challenges. "We hope that we can give effective impulses together with the government," continued Herzog. Pharmig represents more than 120 members who cover the Austrian pharmaceutical market 95 percent and is committed to optimal care for all citizens.
