Christmas business 2024: Upper Austrians rely on local gifts!
In a current analysis of SME research Austria, people in Upper Austria spend an average of around 320 euros for Christmas presents. Throughout Austria, this amount is even 424 euros, as an IMAS report shows. Martin Sonntag, chairman of the Handel division of the WKO Oberösterreich, expresses itself optimistically about the upcoming weeks: "In 2022 and 2023, the Christmas business has decreased. We see a stabilization in the surveys. So it will be better again." This could mean that the buyer has recovered after it has been reserved in recent years.
December 8th falls on a Sunday this year, which eliminates an ordinary shopping day. Nevertheless, Sonntag believes that this will not have a major impact on the Christmas business. The people who want to make their loved ones will simply buy before or after. The study also shows that gifts such as toys, vouchers and clothing are particularly in demand. The willingness to shop in local shops is also remarkable: Almost 40 percent of the respondents plan to invest more in regional transactions, and 20 percent especially want to buy regional products, such as ooe.orf.at reports.
