Weapons ban at the Dornbirner train station: Security is going on!

From Wednesday, February 17th, a strict ban on weapons will apply at Dornbirn station. This measure of the Dornbirn district administration is initially issued for three months and is intended to increase security in one of the most common focal points for security problems in the region. The Vorarlberg state government announced that the need for the ban on repeated incidents with dangerous objects in the area are often justified within different social groups that are regularly there. As the newspaper OE24 reported, this regulation is intended to prevent such incidents.

Advanced control powers for the police

Within the newly established weapon ban zone, the federal and city police receive extended powers to check and enforce the regulations. Dealing with dangerous objects, such as knives, is monitored stricter. However, persons who wear weapons or have weapons under weapons law, as well as pepper sprays for self -defense, are excluded from the ban. According to Mayor Andrea Kaufmann (ÖVP), this measure will make the work of the police easier in terms of guaranteeing security in public space, Governor Markus Wallner (ÖVP) and Security State Councilor Daniel Allgäuer (FPÖ).

In addition to this ban, existing measures are continued to improve security at the station forecourt. This includes more police presence, improved lighting, video surveillance and social projects. As reported by Vorarlberg.orf.at, the weapons ban is part of the ongoing security initiative "Vokus - Security in public places" that started in 2024.
