VW strike escalated: 68,000 employees demand wage increase!
At Volkswagen there is currently a clear industrial action: On Monday, around 68,000 employees fell their work nationwide, including 38,000 in Wolfsburg alone. As ndr.de reported, including nine locations, including Braunschweig, Hannover, Salzgitter and Emden. The IG Metall Union emphasizes that the initially two hours of two hours should be extended to four hours per layer if no agreement is reached in the ongoing collective bargaining. The fourth round of negotiations ended without a result, but has been described as constructive, which triggers hope of progress in the coming weeks.
growing dissatisfaction and clear demands
Dissatisfaction among employees is great and IG Metall uses the warning strikes to increase the pressure on corporate management. The negotiator Thorsten Gröger underlined that the massive number of participation is a strong signal against the measures of the company, which also include wage cuts and possible factories. As Zeit.de notes, the pressure on Volkswagen is enormous: The workforce not only calls for the rescue of its jobs, but also a future without any operational dismissals. The board of directors has announced that it is due to the tense economic situation of ten percent, which, however, encounters resistance.
Last week around 100,000 employees had already participated in the warning strikes, which has been the greatest mobilization since 2018. IG Metall pursues the goal of reaching an agreement that ensures the preservation of jobs and an appropriate payment for the approximately 120,000 employees in the works. With the next tariff round on Monday it will be shown whether the talks will lead to an agreement or whether the struggle for jobs and wages continue to worsen.
