Celebrate diversity: Fulda honors outstanding integration projects!

On Wednesday evening, December 11, 2024, outstanding projects for their work in the field of diversity and participation were awarded in the magnificent city palace of Fulda. The "Prize for Diversity and Participation", which emerged from the former integration and inclusion prices, aims to promote opportunities for opportunities and enrichment by diversity in the baroque city. The event was opened by Anna-Lena Kökgiran, the head of the diversity and participation department, who explained this year's motto "Equalization, Diversity and Inclusion: Commitment of and for Women". Kökgiran emphasized the need to draw attention to the challenges that women are often facing in our society, and encouraged to act in solidarity. Mayor Dr. Heiko Wingenfeld emphasized how important it is not to live side by side, but with each other.

Excellent projects and award winners

The first prize, endowed with 1,500 euros, went to the social service of Catholic women from Fulda. This initiative offers a Krav Maga self-defense course for women who have experienced domestic or sexual violence. The second prize of 1,000 euros was awarded to the German-Russian cultural, social and education center "Rodnik" for the support of Ukrainian women who fled before the war. This initiative started in January 2024 and offers language courses as well as educational and advisory services. The third prize, awarded 500 euros, went to "Antonius: Together Mensch", which promotes the integration of women with escape experiences in Fulda and encourages the exchange between different groups of women. The selection was not easy because other remarkable projects were also presented, such as the “Women's Age” project from Welcome in Fulda.

The "Prize for Diversity and Participation" was first awarded in 2022 and combines the two previously separate prices in an approach that appreciates all people, regardless of their origin or their experience. The independent jury, consisting of representatives of the magistrate and various political groups, decides on the awarding of this price, which not only recognizes the commitment to integration and inclusion, but also shows how important a diverse society for living in Fulda is, as is also documented on the website of the city of Fulda.
