Trump urges fast ceasefire in the Gaza conflict before taking office
The designated US President Donald Trump plans intensively to achieve a ceasefire in the current Gaza war before taking office on January 20 and the release of the hostages captured by Hamas. Senator Lindsey Graham, a supporter of Trump, confirmed in an interview with the news portal Today that Trump is looking at the hostage and a quick solution. At the moment it is estimated that only about half of the approximately 100 remaining hostages still live in the Gaza Strip. Graham expressed hope that the outgoing government of President Joe Biden and Trump could work together during the transition period to reach an agreement and stop bloodshed.
In the meantime, the aid organization World Central Kitchen (WCK) breaks down its work in the Gaza Strip due to the killing of one of its employees through the Israeli army. The employee was killed in the course of an air raid when he was transported. Israel justified the attack by providing information that the employee had been identified by means of credible information and was involved in the previous Hamas massacre. Meanwhile, Hamas has published a video of a soldier in its violence in which he asks Trump to stand up for a hostage -taking and calls him not to deliver weapons to Israel that could endanger the hostages href = "https://www.tagesschau.de/newsticker/liveblog-ahost-samstag-210.html"> Tagesschau .
ceasefire in view
Hope for an early ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is further inspired by the reports on a delegation of Hamas, which is expected in Cairo. These conversations could bring impulses for a prisoner exchange and a ceasefire agreement after the negotiations have recently stalled. According to a Hamas official, the group has: "We are ready for an agreement", which could potentially accelerate the negotiations. Graham emphasized that peace in the region for Trump is of the utmost importance and that a ceasefire is prioritized in Gaza. This is done in parallel with the continued conflicts that continue to cause excitement in the region.
