Telework: New law brings advantages for employees from 2025!

The world of work in Austria is faced with a fundamental change: From January 1, 2025, the "home office" previously used will be replaced by the new concept of "teleworking". This means that employees will no longer be able to work only from home, but also in coworking spaces or cafés. The social committee decided on June 27th a corresponding amendment to the working and social law framework to take into account the changing work requirements, such as 5min.at reported .

Another highlight for employees is the introduction of a telephoto flat rate of up to 300 euros. The framework conditions remain the same: Employees can receive up to three euros per television day for a maximum of 100 days a year. This regulation not only ensures financial support, but also for the necessary insurance coverage if the work is carried out in certain locations. When working in your own apartment or a nearby coworking space, the paths to work are also insured. In the case of workplaces in cafés or hotels, however, this insurance coverage only applies to the time on site, not for the journey, such as Die-wirtschaft.at noted .

Contractual clarity for teleworkers

An important aspect of the new law is the written agreement between employer and employee via the respective television locations. No claims can be asserted without this written clarification. It is also important that teleworking is done regularly. One -off working days outside the company are not recognized as teleworking, which clarifies that the decision on teleworking requires a joint agreement. Employers cannot unilaterally order teleworking, which ensures a certain amount of flexibility for employees and employers.
