Social department Munich: Fire letter causes excitement and incomprehension

In the Munich social department, it is boiling: Many employees are dissatisfied with the situation and have sent an urgent letter to Mayor Dieter Reiter and social officer Dorothee Schiwy. In this fire letter, the staff councils clearly demand that the cuts in the personnel budget have to stop. "In an authority that is indispensable for social peace in Munich, it is incomprehensible that savings potential is seen at all," it says. The decision not to fill open positions is seen as a sign of massive ignorance and indifference to the employees, whose workload is already unbearable, as the Süddeutsche Zeitung reported.

Change in the management of the city administration

The latest developments in the Munich city administration are also the choice of new speakers. The city council has determined Christian Scharpf (SPD) as the new head of the work and business department, whereby his term on March 1, 2025 begins. Scharpf, who is currently mayor of Ingolstadt, follows Clemens Baumgärtner, who has worked in this position since March 2019. In addition, Dr. Florian Roth (Greens) elected the new head of the cultural department from July 1, 2025 and will follow Anton Biebl, who has held the office since July 2019. The website of the city of Munich also reported on the reactor of Professor Dr. Elisabeth Merk as a city building councilor, who thus takes her fourth term.
