Record figures for bird monitoring: Hohenau celebrates the blue -throat!

Hohenau, Österreich - In Hohenau, the Auring association celebrates its 30th anniversary of the Hohenau-Ringelsdorf Bering station and takes stock over an eventful year. The last bird had already been measured and fogged at the end of October. A total of 365 employees have recorded 102,000 birds since its foundation. This happens every year between July and October, when a committed team, which consists of experts and volunteers, tirelessly works to carefully monitor the bird populations. Ute Nüsken, expert in environmental education, emphasizes the importance of these documentation for scientific work and nature conservation.

In 2024, remarkable 3,200 birds were integrated into the databases when it comes to rating. Particularly noteworthy are the records of the blue -throat with 46 specimens and the bars with 250 caught birds, which thus represent new highlights in the history of the station. The preservation of these species is crucial, especially in view of the challenges of climate change and dwindling habitats. The site of the old Hohenauer Zuckerfabrik, which today houses the ringing station, offers a habitat for many animal species with 65 hectares.

celebrations and future outlook

The sensation of the season is the record stock of the blue -throat on the bird.schau. Places that serve as an important habitat for this species of birds. Only moist and protected sludge areas are essential for the reproduction of the birds. The blue -throat population has been continuously observed since 1993 and has established itself as an unofficial heraldic animal of the association. The targeted management of the areas has meant that 20 areas could be counted this year, which corresponds to a significant progress in the preservation of this endangered species, as auring.at reports.

The Auring association remains optimistic and is committed to ensuring that nature conservation and environmental education will continue to be in the foreground in the future. Nüsken appeals to the public to actively work for the preservation of nature in order to enable future generations to experience the impressive bird world.
