New Ministry of the Environment and Agriculture: One step into the future!

In the new federal government, it will be exciting: With the renaming of the "Federal Ministry for Agriculture and Forestry, Regions and Water Management", a strong new ministry will soon be launched. In the future it will be called "Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Environment, Climate, Regions and Water Management (BMLUK)". This important reform not only brings with it a new name, but also expanded responsibilities. In the future, areas such as the environment, climate, and circular economy as well as the coordination of nature conservation will be united under one roof. Federal Minister Norbert Tettschnig emphasizes: "With the reunification of the agricultural and environmental agents, what belongs together!" This is intended to make Austria an even more livable location, such as "https://www.ots.at/presseaus-sung/ots_20250307_ots0178/neue-fuer-kuenftiges-fuer-land-und--umwelt-klima- and-wasserwirtschaft"> ots.at reported.

The distribution of tasks is also important at European level. The EU has specific responsibilities that were transferred to it by the Member States, especially in the area of environmental policy. This also affects climate change, where the EU and Member States can issue legal acts in certain areas. According to Articles 11 and 191–193 of the contract on the working method of the European Union (TFEU), both the EU and the Member States have the authority to become active, but the Member States must make sure that the EU does not already perceive its responsibility. This makes it clear that the future work of the BMLUK will be closely linked to the European measures for climate protection, since both levels have to work together - a point of view that is clearly outlined on the EU platforms, as on climate.ec.europa.eu explained.

The creation of the BMLUK could thus be a decisive step in the fusion of agriculture and environmental protection and a significant progress in the fight against climate change. Comfortable hopes for a sustainable future for the next generations, in which healthy living conditions and environmentally friendly practices go hand in hand.
