The focus on climate justice: benefit for women in Colombia!
In Salzburg, the traditional benefit soup dinner of the Catholic women's movement (KfB) recently took place as part of the "Family Fast Day" campaign, an event that focuses on the urgent topic of climate justice in the global south this year. The chairman Michaela Luckmann appealed to those responsible to prioritize peace, social change and environmental protection. With over 150 participants, including celebrities such as Archbishop Franz Lackner, the event was an impressive sign of the commitment in the fight against climate justice, especially in countries such as Colombia, where the indigenous population suffers from ecological exploitation. Lackner reported on his shattering experiences in Brazil and emphasized that determined action was the key to recapturing the country.
active for women's rights
As part of the Family Fast Day campaign, it is not only pointed out to climate protection, but also financially invested in projects that support women in Colombia. These should receive access to education, economic independence and political participation. Colombia is known as the most dangerous country for environmentalists; In 2023 alone, 79 activists were murdered there, as can be seen from the Global Witness Report. Angelika Ritter-Greplep, the chair of KFB Austria, made it clear when it comes to the benefit soup meal that climate change is the most important global problem that must be addressed urgently. She demanded political measures for a life -friendly life and emphasized that this crisis is a social problem associated with social inequality.
In addition to the works in Colombia, the Family Fast Day campaign also relies on international cooperation, as was demonstrated at another event in Vienna. There, prominent supporters such as Mayor Michael Ludwig and Minister of Women Susanne Raab recognized the work of the KFB and emphasized their solidarity in combating injustices. These activities are not only important for women worldwide, but also a call to society to work for a fairer and more environmentally friendly future. With its initiative, the Catholic women's movement has been promoting sustainable development for 66 years and helps to create a better life for women and overall for everyone.
