Investments in Lower Austria: A bright spot in dark times!

In a current press conference in Tulln, on February 24, 2025, Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner reported significant progress in the Lower Austrian work program, which was initiated over 700 days ago. Together with the state office representative Udo Landbauer, they informed about the results of the recent government exam in the "House of Digitization". Mikl-Leitner announced that 45 percent of the agreed measures have already been implemented and another 40 percent are in the pipeline. One of the most important points is the introduction of a 1,000 euro care check and the expansion of childcare in order to meet the needs of compatriots. The action plan against radical Islam gained particularly urgency by recent incidents, with Mikl-Leitner emphasized that the State Security Council would start work in early March to ensure security.

reforms to support the economy

A central theme of the exam was the economic situation in Lower Austria, which has been shaped by the longest recession since World War II. Landbauer emphasized the need for determined measures to strengthen competitiveness and construction industry as well as investments in the infrastructure. During a period from April 2023 to February 2025, over 700 construction measures with a total volume of around 189 million euros were realized. At the same time, Wolfgang Ecker, President of the Chamber of Commerce Lower Austria, called for a clear reduction in bureaucracy, especially at European level, to ensure the competitiveness of the companies. According to Ecker, around 75 percent of goods exports to EU countries in Lower Austria, which underlines the importance of flexible and efficient rules in order not to continue to burden companies. These claims coincide with the assessment of Johannes Schedlbauer, who demands a rapid implementation of the reduction of reporting and evidence obligations announced by the European Commission.

Both leaders focus on the regional economy at the center of its measures and reaffirm that less bureaucracy and more efficiency are crucial to secure jobs and promote prosperity. Another step in this direction is the creation of a simplified approval process, whereby companies should receive a legal contact person in the future. From the report by WKNÖ and politics it becomes clear that the coming months are crucial for the company in Lower Austria, which not only faces the acute challenges, but also strives for a positive economic turn.
