Integration made easy: Interactive workshop inspires young people in Coesfeld

At the Oswald von Nell Breuning vocational college in Coesfeld, an interactive workshop took place, which was aimed at young people and aimed to facilitate their integration into German culture. Anja Hölscher, employee of the municipal integration center of the Coesfeld district, reported that the workshop imparted knowledge and encouraged lively dialogues to promote mutual understanding. The participants showed great commitment and openness.

The focus of the workshop was concrete everyday situations that illustrate cultural differences. The young people learned how to develop linguistic and intercultural skills in order to be successful in school, training and work. Central topics included:

  • naming of cultural differences and perceptions in Germany compared to the countries of origin.
  • The meaning of gestures and eye contact, such as shaking hands.
  • respectful contact with people in the living environment.
  • Different behavior in public, on the street, in public transport, at school, at work and in the family.

The central building blocks of the workshop formed

interactive exercises, rounds of discussion and role -playing games. The positive feedback from the participants shows the importance of such offers for integration. The vocational college plans to carry out similar events and further develop the concept to promote integration.

The Biss-Institut , which offers training programs for intercultural competence. These programs are aimed at a wide audience and aim to recognize, respect and deal with it productively. Among other things, the participants learn how cultural characteristics influence perception and actions, and acquire basic knowledge of the cultures of origin of refugees and their religion.

The bite institute contains various building blocks such as problem-solving training, relaxation training, cognitive training and pleasure and mindfulness training in order to better support people in intercultural contexts and prepare them for challenges.
